Sunflower, Rose and Carnation Bouquet

Golden sunflowers, red and pink roses, pink carnations, and white chrysanthemums with lily buds and gypsophila - hand-tied in blush marble wrap. A genuinely joyful bouquet.

A Bouquet Full of Genuine Warmth

Some bouquets are polished and formal. Summer Fields is neither - it is warm, generous, and genuinely joyful. Bright golden sunflowers anchor the arrangement with their open, sunny faces. Deep red and soft pink roses sit through the centre, adding richness and a touch of romance. Cerise spray carnations and full pink carnations bring texture and colour variation throughout. White chrysanthemums and pale green lily buds add lightness, and clouds of white gypsophila fill every gap. Tall blades of grass rise up through the arrangement, giving it height and a loose, natural movement that feels closer to a summer garden than a florist's counter.

Every stem is selected and hand-tied at our Northampton studio on the day of delivery, wrapped in our blush pink and gold marble paper and finished with a satin ribbon.

What Is in This Bouquet

  • Sunflowers - large, fully open golden heads with rich dark centres, the standout flower in the arrangement
  • Red roses - full-headed, deeply saturated blooms that anchor the centre with warmth and depth
  • Pink roses - soft, full heads that balance the red and bring a gentler tone alongside the sunflowers
  • Cerise spray carnations - small, multi-headed stems in vivid pink that add movement and colour throughout
  • Pink carnations - full, frilly-edged blooms that add structure and hold their colour well over time
  • White chrysanthemums - large, flat-headed blooms that lighten the palette and add volume
  • Pale green lily buds - arriving closed and opening gradually over several days, adding fragrance as the bouquet matures
  • White gypsophila - fine, billowing clusters that fill every space between the larger blooms
  • Tall grass blades and fern - structural elements that add height and a natural, garden-grown quality
  • Blush marble wrap - our signature pink and gold paper, finished with a satin ribbon bow

How to Care for Summer Fields

  • Trim 2 cm from each stem at a diagonal angle as soon as the bouquet arrives
  • Place immediately in a clean vase with fresh, cool water
  • Change the water every two days and re-trim the stems each time
  • Keep away from direct sunlight, radiators, and draughts
  • Remove lily stamens once the buds open if you want to avoid pollen staining on surfaces or fabric
  • Sunflowers are naturally robust and typically hold their shape for 7 to 10 days
  • Carnations and chrysanthemums are the longest-lasting stems in the bouquet, often looking well for up to 14 days
  • Lily buds continue opening for 3 to 5 days after delivery, so the bouquet changes and develops through the week

Keep Your Flowers Fresh Longer

Your beautiful Northampton flower delivery deserves expert care. Follow our local florist's proven tips to enjoy vibrant blooms for up to two weeks.

Immediate Care (First Hour)

Unpack promptly – Remove your flowers from packaging within 1 hour of delivery to prevent overheating.

Trim stems at an angle – Cut 2-3cm off each stem at a 45° angle using sharp scissors or secateurs. This increases water absorption.

Remove lower leaves – Strip any foliage that would sit below the waterline to prevent bacterial growth.

Use clean water – Fill your vase with fresh, cool tap water. Add the flower food sachet provided with your bouquet.

Daily Maintenance

Change water every 2 days – Fresh water prevents bacteria that shorten flower life. Rinse the vase thoroughly.

Re-cut stems – Trim another 1cm off stems each time you change the water.

Remove wilted blooms – Take out any dying flowers to keep the arrangement looking fresh and prevent bacteria spread.

Top up water daily – Flowers drink a lot, especially in the first few days.

Ideal Placement

Cool location – Keep flowers away from direct sunlight, radiators, and heating vents. Cooler temperatures (16-18°C) extend vase life.

Avoid fruit bowls – Ripening fruit releases ethylene gas which causes flowers to age faster.

Skip draughty spots – Avoid windowsills and doorways where temperature fluctuates.

Special Flower Types

Roses – Remove guard petals (outer petals) if damaged. Roses can last 7-12 days with proper care.

Lilies – Remove orange pollen stamens to prevent staining and extend bloom life. Lilies can last up to 2 weeks.

Tulips – These continue growing in the vase. Use less water (5-7cm) and keep very cool.

Sunflowers – Change water frequently as stems can become slimy. These bold blooms last 7-10 days.

Chrysanthemums – Hardy flowers that can last 2-3 weeks. Break stems rather than cutting for best results.

Troubleshooting

Drooping heads? Re-cut stems and place in deep, cool water for 2 hours to revive.

Cloudy water? Sign of bacteria. Change immediately and clean vase with diluted bleach.

Petals browning? Remove affected flowers and ensure vase isn't in direct heat or sunlight.

Expert Tip from Your Local Northampton Florist

Add a drop of bleach or vodka to your vase water (1 teaspoon per litre) as a natural antibacterial. This simple trick can add 3-4 extra days to your flower's vase life. At Blossom Surprise, we've been caring for Northampton's flowers since day one – these techniques really work!
